Let’s face it, winters in the NY Tri-state are miserable. All of us start wishing we were on a beach somewhere tropical and warm – weddings in the winter are the last thing on a newly engaged couples mind or a couple postponing a wedding due to COVID-19. But, its here and its happening….and we LOVE IT!
SO…..let’s talk about the perks!
The wedding season is slow in the winter. We know that winter might not be the most popular time to get married, but why cant they become a thing? Venues tend to offer discounts per head and vendors start offering incentives to book with them. Why not take advantage of it?
As photographers, we see the beauty in these magical winter weddings. This time of year, produces some of the most breathtaking images. I mean we get it, its cold and its so hard to look cute and happily in love when it’s 10 degrees outside. But we still believe the cold weather and snow can add magic and character to your wedding photos. Snowy wedding photos are just the best – embrace the romance and coziness of the soft snowflakes and take advantage of the unique attributes of the season. While you may be uncomfortable for a few minutes outside in the cold, trust us these images are so worth it to capture the beauty in your wedding.
Not to mention, the lighting is PERFECT! The sun reflecting off the snow and frost make for brighter, better images in the morning. Romantic sunset shots can be taken early. Shorter days mean more available time to play with different lighting which means you will have a HUGE variety of wedding photos to choose from.
Couples who get married in the winter can make mother nature work for them! In the mornings, sunlight reflecting off the snow and frost make for brighter, better images. And if you want a romantic shot in the sunset, you won’t have to wait that long! Shorter days mean you’ll have more time available to play with different lighting, and that means you’ll have a greater variety of wedding photos to choose from.
Can we talk about winter bridal styles for a second? A gorgeous jacket or fur wrap would act as the perfect winter accessory and keep you comfortably warm. Winter brides get to choose between stoles and muffs, snit sweater wraps and velvet capes, long gloves and the most amazing jewelry. Worried about ruining those expensive Jimmy Choo’s? how about bringing a pair of cute boots to wear during your wedding pictures, remember your dress will cover the boots.
Take full advantage of the foods and drinks of the season, winter time is the perfect time for indulging and feasting. Welcome guests with spiked hot apple cider or a stout beer. A hot chocolate station with add ins like marshmallows, peppermints, cinnamon sticks or an espresso/cappuccino station with whipped cream and rock candy sticks, and assorted biscotti. Who can forget end of the night snacks like s’mores – need we say more?!
Think of all the creative possibilities winter weddings bring – from the flowers to the dresses to the photographs. Don’t fight the weather – embrace it.
